Description
Jacques (1926-2008) and Dani (1933-2010) RUELLAND: Orange manganese earthenware pocket caddy. Signed under the base. H. 6 cm and W: 11 cm. JACQUES & DANI RUELLAND Jacques Ruelland and Dani, born Danielle Dupin, met in Paris and joined forces both in life and in ceramic design. Dani's own approach to materials and volumes was combined with Jacques' love of colour through this shared medium. Initially influenced by Vallauris, they gradually asserted their style. Their distinctive work is characterised by asymmetrical shapes, notably off-centre collars, and brilliant glazes in bright, vivid colours. Each piece was individually modelled. In the 1960s, their palette evolved towards softer, pastel shades, applied in thin layers of enamel.
