Description
DAUM FRÈRES - ARTISTIC GLASSWORKS OF NANCY
Les Blés sauvages - Tribute to Claude Monet, circa 1905, the only example of this model known to date, artistic glassware probably made at the time for an exhibition.
Exceptional vase in the shape of a tapering shell resting on a pedestal.
Produced in multi-layered glass, the rotating title decoration features bearded ears of corn rendered in large applications of orange-tinted glass modelled and hot-glued onto a background treated in the style of an Impressionist painting, simulating a grassy field revealing possible poppies and executed in interspersed colours - the upper part evoking a clear sky.
The base of the body of the vase is also decorated with applications forming the stems and leaves of the barley.
The pedestal is decorated with marmoreal clouds.
A few hairs of the barley ears originally interrupted.
Signed DAUM Nancy with the Cross of Lorraine, in intaglio towards the base of the body of the vase.
Height : 33,5 cm
