Pair of small porcelain bowls, China, late 19th–early 20th century, decorated with dragons in the clouds soaring over the waves in pursuit of a flamed pearl, with leiwen friezes on the rims, Guangxu marks beneath the bases, diam. 9 cm and height 4.5 cm (cracked)
Provenance: the collection of Edward T. Chow (Qiu Yanzhi, 仇焱之, 1910–1980), which has remained in the family to this day. Edward T. Chow was one of the most important collectors and dealers in Chinese art of the 20th century, particularly renowned for his collection of ceramics. Based in Geneva from 1967 onwards, he built up a collection that has become a benchmark in the field of Chinese art.
