René BUTHAUD (1886–1986) Pair of Nubian-style candlesticks Pair of polychrome glazed earthenware candlesticks depicting a Nubian man wearing a green turban atop a creature that is half-giraffe, half-Capricorn; the shaft of the candlestick has a speckled decoration. Monogrammed ‘RB’ in enamel on the base. Made circa 1940–1950 H: 30 – W: 17.5 – D: 7 cm (Some damage to the tips of the animal’s horns) René Buthaud produced his first statuettes in 1927 and collaborated with the Georges Rouard gallery until 1966, supplying it with this type of work in particular.
