Description
JAPAN, Edo period, 19th century Carved boxwood okimono, signed Masanao (Ise) Taking the form of a seated tiger, its tail folded over its body, its mouth looking ferocious, the details finely incised in a concern for naturalism. Supposedly brought back from Asia in the mid-twentieth century by a relative of the family known as Marcel.
