Description
VIETNAM, Le Dynasty, 16th century Bat Trang stoneware vase Baluster-shaped, resting on a circular support decorated in relief with chimera heads, the vase has a curved base and a high, swollen shoulder topped by a short neck. The whole is decorated with dragons in relief moving among stylised clouds, highlighted with cobalt blue underglaze on a cream glaze. The neck is underlined by a frieze of ruyi, the base decorated with high stylised panels. The body bears an engraved inscription: "泰肆年陸月初一日造" Possibly translating as: "Made on the first day of the sixth month in the fourth year of Tai".
