Ⓗ NGUYEN PHI HUNG (1907 - 1987) "Haloed Buddha Watercolour on paper Signed lower right 54 × 39.7 cm The artist Nguyễn Phi Hùng is a painter originally from Huế, from a family closely linked for several generations to the court arts of the Nguyễn dynasty. He is the son of court painter Nguyễn Khắc Nhân - an artist specialising in traditional portraiture and close to Emperor Thành Thái - who helped to document royal events through painting and illustration. His family carries on a long artistic tradition: his brothers Nguyễn Phi Hồ and Nguyễn Phi Long, as well as the female painter Maria Mộng Hoa, were all active in the artistic milieu in Huế before 1975.
