Description
JEAN DESPRES (1889–1980)
A rare modernist tea and coffee service in silver-plated metal; comprising a coffee pot, a teapot, a milk jug and a sugar bowl.
Each piece has a cylindrical shape, resting on a small, recessed foot with a smooth surface; the base of each cylinder has a hammered finish and features a cut-out, rotating decorative motif.
The finials on the lids of both pots and the sugar bowl each consist of a faceted sphere framed by two small, smooth-finished balls.
The handles are finished with a hammered texture; the heat-resistant handles on the pots are made of Macassar ebony.
Each piece is signed ‘J. DESPRES’ with a point under the base and bears the Master Silversmith’s hallmark.
