André ARBUS (1903-1969)
Circa 1940
Large dining table in cherry veneer, with a rectangular top with half-moon ends decorated in chevron marquetry, embellished with a brass moulding and a moulded belt.
It stands on six wide curved tapered legs with scrolling motifs, finished with brass sabots and linked by a sinuous H-shaped strut reminiscent of the movement of waves.
It features gilt bronze medallions on the rim depicting the rivers of France (the Seine, the Rhône, the Loire, the Garonne and the Rhine), signed "Marcel Renard".
The tray extensions are missing from the extension system.
H. 74.5 - W 235 - D 110cm.
(Cracks, restorations and marks of use on the top, one hoof to be refixed, uprisings on the moulding, oxidation, cracks in certain areas of the wood).
