Description
Jacques BLIN (1920–1995), LAMP BASE in blue and black glazed ceramic, with an incised frieze of stylised animals and plants in black. Signed on the base. Circa 1960. Damage and restoration to the handle. Chips to the rim. Drilled for electrical wiring. Height: 33.5 cm Base diameter: 10.5 cm Born in 1920 in Pierrefond, Jacques BLIN initially worked as an aeronautical engineer before turning to ceramics in 1949. His early works remained traditional and conventional, but it was his collaboration with the painter Jean RUSTIN from 1955 onwards that transformed his style, characterised by cloudy glazes adorned with birds, animals and human figures – features distinctive of his work. It was this collaboration that earned him the Grand Prix Bernard de Palissy in 1958. The following year, he moved to the Villa Hallé in Paris’s 14th arrondissement and worked alongside renowned ceramists such as Georges Jouve and Valentine Schegel.
