Description
Georges ORIOT (1928–2004) in PONT AVEN. Polychrome glazed ceramic PLATE decorated with a BLACKBIRD motif. Signed and marked ‘PONT-AVEN’ on the reverse. Diameter: 19.5 cm Born in 1928 in Quimperlé, Georges ORIOT-LE SELLIN trained as a painter and graphic designer for four years in Paul COLIN’s Parisian studio. In 1951, he collaborated briefly with Xavier KREBS at the LEZAVEN manor house before working as a freelance artist at the KERALUC factory. He subsequently set up his studio in Pont-Aven in 1953, where he developed the ‘grisaille’ technique used on this plate. In 1958, he exhibited in Cannes under the patronage of Pablo Picasso.
