Description
Adrienne Jouclard (1882, Onville – 1972, Versailles), *Dancing Horses*, *The Lipizzans*, Indian ink, signed lower right and annotated: ‘A. JOUCLARD, *Dancing Horses*, *The Lipizzans*’. A painter, engraver and draughtswoman, she trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs (1899–1901) and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1907 (winning a prize as early as 1908 and receiving a medal in 1912) and was awarded the Rosa-Bonheur Prize in 1914. A member of the Salon d’Automne from 1921 onwards, she exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries (1939) and the Salon des Indépendants (from 1919). From 1931, Adrienne Jouclard was a member of the *Groupe des Douze, founded by Pompon. Still lifes, peasant life, seascapes and landscapes of Onville were her sources of inspiration. But she was renowned for being the first woman to distinguish herself in the depiction of the sporting world, her favourite subject, owing to her love of movement. The National Sports Museum in Paris holds 200 of her sketches and 27 oil paintings.
