André LHOTE 1885–1962 HOMAGE TO WATTEAU, circa 1918 Oil on parquet-panelled wood, signed top right 30 x 24.5 cm Provenance: Millon auction of 20 March 2019 Bibliography: Included in the archives of Mrs Bermann Martin for the Catalogue Raisonné History: Study for the painting ‘Homage to Watteau’ (1918), follows on from the study purchased from the Galerie Druet and subsequently exhibited at the Mansart Gallery in London in 1919, where it was acquired by Frank Hindley Smith and later donated to the Tate Gallery in 1940 The Musée d’City of Paris holds a watercolour from the bequest of Dr Girardin in 1953
