Description
MILLET in PARIS. 1853–1918
An exceptional clock with a double rotating ring, crafted from Arabidia breccia and chiselled, gilded bronze, forming a lidded vase. The handle takes the form of a bursting pomegranate, whilst the neck is encircled by a torus adorned with acanthus leaves. The body, embellished with bundles of reeds, is flanked by a triton and a nereid, holding a trident. It rests on a square-based pedestal, adorned with a dolphin and surrounded by mouldings. The upper rotating ring features twelve white-enamelled discs indicating the minutes, in increments of five, in Arabic numerals. The lower ring, with a blue background, features thirteen white-enamelled discs, set within leaf-decorated cartouches, indicating the hours in Roman numerals.
The movement is signed ‘MALINE Horloger à Paris’, stamped GML/375/4-8.
The suspended balance wheel is signed ‘BROCOT PROPTE’.
The clock is signed: MILLET À PARIS (on the moulding of the base).
