Description
Mende helmet mask, Sierra Leone
A headdress topped by a central crest decorated at both the front and back with spheres and two horns (the tips having been broken off in the past); on the sides, two semi-circular decorations, the interiors of which are adorned with herringbone patterns. The forehead is incised with two lines of sunken scarification marks; large, closed eyelids; small, slightly parted mouth.
