WOODEN NETSUKE REPRESENTING THREE MUSHROOMS In the style of Masanao of Ise, with additions by Jikan Ganbun, 19th century A WOOD NETSUKE OF THREE MUSHROOMS Style of Masanao of Ise, with additions by Jikan Ganbun, 19th century The broad headed fungi with joined stalks forming the himotoshi, inlaid with seven metal ants; signed on an ebony tablet Jikan Ganbun. 4.8 cm (1 7/8 in.) long Provenance: Purchased at Sotheby's London, in 1966 (by repute). Edward Wrangham Collection. Bonhams London, 9 November 2010, lot 126. 木彫根付 椎茸に蟻 銘「自侃 眼文」 19世紀 The original netsuke of mushrooms was probably made in Nagoya or in Ise during the first half of the 19th century, the ants being added by Ganbun at a later date.
