August Van Yper (1884–1963) ‘Après La Guerre’, watercolour on paper. (1914) A drawing titled ‘Après la Guerre’. The dead are drinking after the war. ‘Srapnell extra Fort’, ‘Missionaire’, ‘Guillaume Sang Pur’, …  Signed lower left, “G. Van Yper”, and dated 1914.  August van Yper was an amateur artist and James Ensor’s domestic servant from 1915 or 1917 until his death in 1949. Gust kept living in Ensor's house until his death in 1963. This drawing dates from before he entered the service of James Ensor, and shows clear influences from Ensor’s 19th-century works.  (46.5 x 56.5 cm) Provenance: private Belgian collection.  Dimensions: (W:23,5 x H:20 cm) The absence of a condition report does not imply a perfect item.
