Description
[CURIOSA]. [CRÉBILLON the Younger]. THE LOVE AFFAIRS OF ZEOKINIZUL, KING OF THE KOFIRANS. A work translated from the Arabic by the traveller KRINELBOL. IN AMSTERDAM, PUBLISHED BY MICHEL, 1746. One volume, in-12 (17 x 9.6 cm), comprising (3) folios, 154 pages, in a full contemporary binding in marbled calfskin. Smooth, richly decorated and gilt spine bearing the gilt title on a panel of light red leather, red edges. Title printed in black and red with a pretty floral motif. Two corners slightly worn, otherwise a perfect copy. First edition, published anonymously, of this licentious and satirical tale about the love affairs of Louis XV, written by Claude Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon. Note the subtlety of the title, which forms a fanciful anagram of: *Les Amours de Louis Kinze, Rois des Frankois*. A work translated from the Arabic by the Traveller Krébillon. A fine copy of the utmost rarity. (Cohen, 90 cites only the 1748 edition.)
