Giphanius. AMSTERDAM, THEODOFIUS RIHELIUS, (undated), 1570. One volume, 8vo (17.5 x 11 cm), comprising 827 pp., (1) p., (26) ff., in full old grained calfskin binding. Spine with four highly decorated and gilt raised bands bearing the gilt title, with decorated and gilt edges. Text in Greek and Latin. Ex-libris vignette from the Château de Villardonnel. A fine 16th-century edition. This text is regarded, alongside the Iliad, as one of the two founding poems of ancient Greek culture and as one of the greatest masterpieces of world literature.
