Amélie KAUTZ (1796-1860) Portrait of Madame Fanny LEFEVRE PONTALIS née SOUFFLOT, watercolour miniature, 14.5 x 11.5 cm (17.8 x 14.5 cm with its brass frame) signed "Amélie KAUTZ". On the back part of the genealogy of Mme LEFEVRE PONTALIS, descendant of the architect of the Panthéon Jacques-Germain SOUFFLOT (1713-1780). Amélie de Lacépède, born Countess KAUTZ, specialised in miniatures and watercolours and exhibited at the Salon until 1842. She was the wife of François-Alexandre-Frédéric, Duc de la Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, an economist and member of the nobility at the Estates-General of 1789. Her words to the king on 14 July 1789 are well known: "But is this a revolt?" cried Louis XVI, frightened by the unrest among the people. No, Sire," said the Duke gravely, "this is a revolution!
