Description
Line VAUTRIN (1913–1997) Butterfly Mirror, circa 1960 A circular mirror surrounded by a frame made of stained Talosel and decorated with fragments of mirror, topped by a butterfly with long antennae. Signed on the reverse D_24 cm H_40 cm (in total, including the antennae) Related work: - Christie’s Paris, ‘Design’ sale of 29 November 2022, lot no. 104, sold for €69,300. Comparative bibliography: - Patrick Mauriès, Line Vautrin, Miroirs, Galerie Chastel-Maréchal / Le Promeneur, Paris, 2004. Note: With its butterfly motif and long antennae, this mirror perfectly illustrates the artistic language developed by Line Vautrin in the 1950s and 1960s. Using Talosel, a resin invented by Jean Decaux which became one of her favourite materials, the artist created works that blend precious materials, fragments of mirrors and forms inspired by the natural world.
