Description
A Melody Dimensions: 80 × 110 cm Medium: Cotton canvas on a stretcher frame with 20 × 70 mm wooden bars and a central crossbar. A perceptive viewer may sense that the music evoked by the scene is inspired by India. This is no coincidence: for fifteen years, S. Testa travelled regularly to India to visit the spiritual master Sathya Sai Baba (1926–2011). Those journeys left a profound mark on his artistic and spiritual vision. The central figure is a visitor captivated by the sound of a clarinet. A number of furnishings suggest that she has been welcomed with warmth and hospitality. The evening is cool, and the city lies far away, as though suspended beyond the horizon. At the centre of the composition stands a young elephant adorned with fringes and decorative ornaments. Its appearance reflects the care and attention bestowed upon it by human hands. In the artist’s vision, the positive energy generated by such kindness permeates the entire scene, filling it with joy and serenity. For S. Testa, a painting is not merely an image to be admired but an object capable of radiating positive energy. He conceived his works as true talismans—active presences that interact with both the space they inhabit and the people who contemplate them, rather than lifeless objects hanging on a wall.
