Description
Bordeaux, Henry – *Le cœur de la Reine Hortense* – A copy of the first edition printed especially for Madame Jacques Bainville, with an autograph dedication by the author, in a full blue morocco binding signed ‘Pommier’. Librairie Plon, 1933. With a colour engraving. In 12 format on high-quality, non-commercial paper printed for the recipient, with generous margins, untrimmed, from the first edition, in a signed binding in full blue morocco, ribbed spine, interior covers with double gilt fillets, gilt top edge, double gilt edging on the covers, a small tear at one joint, covers intact, initial of Jeanne Bainville. Autograph dedication by the author to Madame Bainville: ‘To Jeanne Bainville, this book which belongs to her and which, with a smile and a woman’s tears, will soften the portrait—so lucid yet on paper—of the Emperor drawn by her husband’. A very fine copy. For information, Jeanne Bainville was the wife of Jacques Bainville, a French journalist, historian and member of the Académie française, and a friend of Henry Bordeaux. Henry Bordeaux (1870–1963) was a French lawyer, novelist and essayist, originally from Savoy. He was elected to the Académie française in 1919. A prolific writer, he enjoyed considerable success with the public.
