Description
Lavalley, Gaston – Part of the manuscript ‘Légendes normandes’ – It comprises four pages, with creases and tears, the last of which is signed by Gaston Lavalley. A handwritten document covering pages 27 to 30, in fine, legible handwriting, dealing mainly with ‘Michel Cabieu’. It recounts his exploits up to his death in November 1804, followed by anecdotes concerning his descendant and Napoleon I during the latter’s visit to Caen in 1811. An interesting document which can be found in *Légendes normandes*, published in 1867 by Hachette. Gaston Lavalley (1834–1924) was a French librarian, writer and historian. He was a specialist in Norman history.
