Lefranc, Abel – The Face of François Rabelais – Our copy is enhanced by an autograph letter signed by the author, and a dedication on the half-title page, signed and dated October 1927. With a portrait of Rabelais by Lalauze. *Les Amis d’Édouard* No. 104, 1926. Petit in 12, printed in a limited edition of just 206 copies ‘for the friends of Édouard’; this is no. 138, bound in half morocco with vertical stripes, signed by L. Pouillet, initials on the front, plain spine, upper edge gilt, covers intact. It should be noted that several portraits of Rabelais have been added. A very fine copy. Abel Jules Maurice Lefranc, 1863–1952, was a French literary historian. He founded the Société et la Revue des études rabelaisiennes and was elected a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in 1927.
