Description
Lefranc, Pierre – Three typewritten letters signed by Pierre Lefranc, containing original text on André Malraux - Three typewritten letters on the letterhead of the Institut Charles de Gaulle, signed by Pierre Lefranc, dated 14 and 26 April 1982 and 20 April 1983. Having agreed to write a short piece on Malraux, he enclosed it with the second letter: (the text is dated 23 April 1982) ‘The one and only poet. Malraux and Italy: that is Malraux and art. More than a marriage, it was a consuming passion for the author who dreamt of his revolutions. For him, artistic expression was the greatest of human adventures. Since man comes up against obstacles everywhere—prison walls, barbed wire and the steel of tanks—it is through his struggle for beauty that he expresses his love of life and freedom...’. Note: Pierre Lefranc (1922–2012) was a former member of the Resistance and a close associate of General de Gaulle. Co-founder, alongside André Malraux, and first president of the Institute that later became the Charles de Gaulle Foundation, he was one of the leading figures of Gaullism.
