Description
Lucet, Charles – Signed autograph letter from Charles Lucet, former French Ambassador, with a 6-page autograph text on André Malraux - Autograph letter with envelope dated 27 May 1982 from Charles Lucet, former senior civil servant and French Ambassador to the USA, followed by an original, handwritten 6-page text on André Malraux. ‘I met him relatively late in life, in the 1960s, whilst he was a minister under General de Gaulle. We subsequently remained in close contact right up until his final years... Steeped in our history and that of others, he was always stirred by the word ‘Revolution’, and it was indeed the memory of the great upheavals of our past that he loved to evoke first and foremost before his audience, with such tact, such restraint, and such a knack for striking just the right note... As I got to know him better, I was subsequently able to appreciate his personal gifts, his kindness, his benevolence, and his complete lack of pettiness… Malraux is probably the last witness to an era that placed the spoken word above all else…”. Note: Charles Lucet (1910–1990) was a French diplomat and French Ambassador to the United States. A senior civil servant in the political affairs department, he worked behind the scenes alongside many great French figures and served as an enlightened adviser.
