Paris, Ferroud, Librairie des Amateurs, 1913. Large 8vo with the bookshop’s catalogue at the end of the volume. Binding signed ‘J. Van West’, in full red morocco, spine with gilt raised bands (slightly sun-faded), gilded panels, covers framed with triple gilded fillets, inner covers framed with a broad gilded scroll motif, edges of the covers with double gilded fillets, gilded head, original covers preserved. A very fine bibliophile’s copy. Prosper Mérimée (1803–1870) was a writer, historian and archaeologist.
