Murger, Henry & Robaudi – Scenes from Bohemian Life – Watercolours by A. Robaudi, coloured by the artist. A unique edition of 100 copies printed on Marais vellum, here No. 7. Paris: L. Carteret, publisher (formerly Conquet bookshop), 1913. In large 8vo format comprising XIV + 417 pages + table of contents; the interior is very white and fresh. Our copy is accompanied by a signed autograph letter from Henry Murger to Mr Boyer, concerning one of his plays: ‘As you cannot read my handwriting, I am not sending you my first act. I shall go to Paris once I have found the second one. The work will have three…”. The whole is set in a superb mosaic binding signed ‘Dervois’ in full bronze-green morocco (spine turned to brown), smooth spine decorated with gilded and mosaic motifs, covers with quadruple double gilded fillets featuring angular motifs, the inside of the covers in solid violet morocco adorned with gilded motifs and coloured mosaic medallions, silk endpapers, the edges of the covers with double gilded fillets, gilded top edge, illustrated covers and spine preserved, slipcase. Of particular note is the inclusion of the various auction results for the work and a superb portrait of Henry Murger in flight. An exceptional bibliophile’s item. Henry Murger was a French writer (1822–1861). He was friends with the great names of literature. Giacomo Puccini drew inspiration from this work for his opera *La Bohème*. He served as secretary to Count Tolstoy and was a contributor to the *Revue des Deux Mondes*.
