Description
Nodier, Charles – A two-page autograph letter concerning a request for assistance for a man in need - In a letter addressed to the Viscount (Héricart de Thury, Master of Requests), comprising 2 pages in A4 format, each with 28 lines, signed by Charles Nodier, librarian at the Arsenal, undated (between 1824 and 1844). Handwritten note or comment in red, written diagonally across the top of the page. Charles Nodier requests a position for ‘an elderly émigré, my compatriot and friend, Mr Blanchot, Knight of Saint Louis… This respectable man, distinguished by his wit and excellent character, is very poor and very unfortunate… ’, ‘I have never troubled you with my own requests, Monsieur le Vicomte; the sole purpose of this one is to secure employment and a livelihood for an old servant of the King...’. Jean-Charles-Emmanuel Nodier (1780–1844) was a French writer, novelist and member of the Académie Française in 1833. He is credited with having exerted a great influence on the emergence of the Romantic movement.
