Auguste POINTELIN (1839–1933). 4 letters from the author, Mont-sous-Vaudrey 1907–1908, to Noël AMAUDRU, a journalist in Poligny; 9 pages, in-8 or in-12 (mourning format), 3 envelopes. Friendly correspondence with his fellow countryman. 1907. He has finished reading his book *Sultane française au Maroc* (‘a lovely book, varied, lively, and of extraordinary verve’) and thanks him for the dedication. He is suffering from pain in his legs but ‘let me be rendered helpless and the rest be what it may, provided I can paint, that is enough’… 1908. Regarding a fundraising campaign for which he is prepared to donate a painting, and a matter that is stalling, action must be taken “otherwise the ridicule and the disgrace will fall on the Franche-Comté people who will be fighting against their own country and will even prevent it from benefiting from the benefit of the doubt”; but he is ‘too old to return to active service’. Enclosed is a calling card addressed to a doctor, sending his best wishes; plus a letter from Marguerite Henry-Rosier, Dole, 19 October 1935, regarding the committee for the monument to Pointelin in Mont-sous-Vaudrey.
