POMARÉ IV (1813–1877). Autograph letter, ‘Pomare vahine’, Papeete, 1 April 1849, to Armand Joseph BRUAT, former consul in Tahiti; half-page, quarto; in Tahitian (translation enclosed). She greets him in the name of God. ‘Here is your lovely letter with all your kind thoughts. I send my regards to you and your little girls; I shall never forget you. I am well, and so are my children and ours. Never forget. Give my regards to Toropia’... Enclosed: - a letter addressed to her by ‘Na Tira ma’, Raiatea, 27 August 1853 (1 p., quarto, address in Tahitian); - a certified copy of the letter from the President of the Republic, Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, to Queen Pomaré, Paris, 22 October 1851 (1 p., folio), announcing the arrival of Captain Page; - a contemporary French translation of a letter from Pomaré, Papeete, 16 June 1852, to the new governor (Théodore Page), concerning the protectorate (4 folio pages).
