Description
Young Ladies of SAINT-CYR. P.S. by the Mother Superior Catherine du PÉROU (1666–1748), Saint-Cyr, 16 March 1746; 4 folio pages, seal under paper (slightly dampened). ‘Proofs of the nobility of Mademoiselle Marie Rosseline d’Arci de la Varenne, approved by the King to be admitted amongst the girls whom His Majesty has the honour of educating at the Royal House of St Louis, founded at St Cyr in the Park of Versailles’. Mentioned are the young lady’s baptismal certificate, and the marriage contracts and wills of her ancestors up to the seventh degree (16th century), which prove that she possesses ‘ possesses the necessary nobility to be admitted among the young ladies whom His Majesty has entrusted to be brought up at the Royal House of St Louis, founded at St Cyr”. In addition to Sister Catherine du Pérou, the document is signed by Sister Marie Gilberte de Génetines, headmistress of the classes.
