Hans Ruedi GIGER (1940–2014), “Astrological Taurus”, 1992, a light-coloured lithograph on zinc plate from the Zodiac series, depicting a hybrid biomechanical figure inspired by the astrological sign of Taurus. It is signed in the bottom right-hand corner and numbered 49/290 in the bottom left-hand corner. H. 69.5 x 99.5 cm These graphic designs served as the technical basis for a project for a monumental sculpted fountain, the Zodiac Fountain. Although initially conceived for his hometown of Chur, the miniature figures and sketches from this work remain, to this day, key pieces exhibited in retrospectives dedicated to the artist. This represents one of his last major, purely pictorial explorations on a grand scale. This was the point at which he abandoned the airbrush in favour of traditional drawing and three-dimensional sculpture. It was during this period that he designed his famous Giger Bars (in Chur and Gruyères) and worked on projects for fountains and street furniture. After 1998, he devoted himself primarily to the creation and management of his museum.
