German work, 20th century, Empire-style 800 silver tea and coffee service comprising five pieces: - A baluster-shaped coffee pot with a spout featuring a wild beast’s head motif, a wooden handle and a domed lid topped with a pine cone. H. 28 cm - A teapot of the same shape and workmanship, slightly more rounded, also with a wooden handle. H. 23 cm - A smaller milk jug, featuring the same decorative motifs. H. 13.5 cm - A lidded sugar bowl of flattened round shape, on claw feet, decorated with a frieze of gadroons and ovals, with a lid featuring a pine cone motif. H. 16 cm - A large rectangular tray with a mirror-polished interior surface. The rim is adorned with a frieze of finely chiselled gadroons and ovals. Two handles with an acanthus leaf motif. L. 60 x 39 cm Total weight: 5.023 kg Hallmark in a rectangular cartouche stamped ‘800’ (in use in Germany after 1888), manufacturer’s or city mark in the form of a spoked wheel (probably Hanau or Augsburg). The teapot and coffee pot bear no hallmarks.
