Description
Dating from the 1940s, a ‘Masonic’ pedestal table in wood marquetry, with a circular top resting on a base comprising three acacia columns, the circular base adorned with a wooden ball.
H. 60 x 62 cm
Good condition, with minor cracks.
A descriptive text from the seller’s archives explaining the symbolism of each element is available; here is a summary: The circular shape evokes fraternal camaraderie and unity, linking the microcosm to the macrocosm through the three symbolic columns representing wisdom, strength and beauty. The piece is based on an elaborate geometric and numerological language: the circle, triangle, square, pentagram, Seal of Solomon and multi-pointed stars all refer to the principles of creation, universal harmony and spiritual evolution.
The tray is structured according to the four cardinal directions and a central position, symbolically totalling nine elements – the number representing completeness and knowledge. Notably, it features the Chain of Union in a double spiral, alluding to brotherhood, infinity and the link between humankind and the cosmos, as well as references to the golden ratio and the logarithmic spiral, symbols of transcendence and balance.
Crafted from a variety of wood species sourced from different regions of the world, including acacia – a symbol of incorruptibility and immortality – this table combines masterful craftsmanship with profound symbolism.
