Description
Angelo LELII (1911–1979), Two ‘12398’ model table lamps, for Arredoluce, designed in 1952–1954. Made of marble, brass and lacquered metal. These lamps play with the light through their partially openwork shades, which rotate around the socket’s axis. The inner openwork shade is blue and covered by a second, movable white shade, which is also openwork. Stamped with the ‘Made in Italy Arredoluce Monza’ mark on the inside of the lampshade cap. H. 24 x 10 cm (each) Diam. 11 cm Colour and wires restored. Arredoluce is a name to remember: Monza, a factory founded in 1943 by Angelo Lelii, who turned post-war Italian lighting into more than just an accessory. Lelii designed almost everything himself, collaborated with Gio Ponti and the Castiglioni brothers, and in 1951 launched the Triennale floor lamp with three adjustable arms, which became the company’s signature piece. These two lamps are from the 1952–1954 production run, during which Lelii treated the lampshade as a painted object rather than a simple light diffuser: the lacquered metal shade is light-coloured on the outside and coloured on the inside, so that the light takes on the hue of the reverse side.
