Claude Émile SCHUFFENECKER (1851–1934), “Landscape”, pastel on paper, monogrammed with the artist’s stamp in the lower right-hand corner.
H. 11 x 19 cm
Born in Fresne on 8 December 1851, he exhibited at the Salon from 1874 onwards; he was one of the founders of the Salon des Indépendants in 1884. Initially a pupil of Paul Baudry and Carolus-Duran, he abandoned academic painting when he met Gauguin, with whom he became friends. He also formed friendships with Pissarro and Seurat. He died in Paris in August 1934.
He took part in the Impressionist exhibition of 1886.
