Description
Erik Sylvester HÖGLUND (1932–1998) for BODA SMIDE – Pendant lamp in metal, glass and plexiglass.
In working order.
A leading figure in Scandinavian design, Erik Höglund revolutionised Swedish glassmaking in the 1950s at Boda Glasbruk. Trained as a sculptor, he rejected the minimalist functionalism of his era, advocating a return to the primitivism of glass. He deliberately incorporated air bubbles, thickness and colour into his work. With Boda Smide, he combined moulded glass medallions with raw wrought iron to create iconic candlesticks.
Awarded the prestigious Lunning Prize in 1957, Höglund demystified Nordic glass by infusing it with a sculptural and poetic dimension.
