In this composition, green, in all its delicate shades, dominates, but remains surprisingly luminous. Crowned by a twilight sky, the slow-moving horsemen and the burning castle in the background stand out clearly against a strangely silent landscape. The elegant, luxurious red cloak emphasises the figure and presence of the main character, and the sword he carries on his left, with its finely crafted hilt, is far from a mere accessory: it is a symbol of nobility. The shadows emphasise the youthful features of his face, and above all they reveal very light blue eyes. Without showing the slightest emotion, he gazes into the distance, as if he has decided to forget for good what he is leaving behind.
