Description
Gaston: Gag strip no. 685 in Indian ink with white gouache highlights, pre-published in the Spirou special issue "Héroïnes" no. 1747, 7 October 1971. This plate was published in the album "Le Géant de la gaffe" by Éditions Dupuis in 1972. At the editorial office, Gaston is immersed in a new passion: growing cacti, which are sometimes found lying around on a colleague's seat... But the young man has also given one to Miss Jeanne, to see if it's acclimatising well to the office environment, but he's surprised to find no thorns on his gift, which he promptly replaces with a new cactus. The next day, his beautiful plant is once again hairless. Gaston doesn't give up, however, and gives his delightful colleague a third cactus, while worrying whether they might be suffering from a disease. That's just it: they're victims of the disease caused by Miss Jeanne's love for Mr Gaston!//R////R//Superb composition in which Franquin's masterful inking highlights all the different poses and expressions of the superb and ravishing Miss Jeanne, as well as Gaston's expressions of naivety and bewilderment. With her sensual presence in six panels, Mademoiselle Jeanne radiates this work with her flashes of love and passion. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful plates in the series, and a magnificent illustration of the platonic yet passionate relationship between these two heartthrobs.//R////R//Dedicated and signed on the back by Liliane Franquin. Enclosed is a coloured pencil tracing of the lower part. Signed. This gag is mentioned in "Signé Franquin", pages 108 and 109 (Dupuis, 1992). The signature is reproduced in "Les Signatures de Franquin", page 12 (Marsu Productions, 2005). This strip is reproduced in "Le Monde de Franquin", page 42 (Marsu Productions, 2004). The 4th strip is also reproduced on page 266 of "La Véritable Histoire des éditions Dupuis" (Dupuis, 2024). (Traces of sticky paper). Dimensions: 33 x 44.8 cm.
