Description
Spirou: Sheet no. 28B (in 4 strips) in Indian ink and white gouache highlights from the episode "Le Dictateur et le champignon" ("The Dictator and the Mushroom") published in Spirou no. 828, 25 February 1954. The album was published in 1956 by Éditions Dupuis.//R////R//The story begins in Champignac, where the Marsupilami gets hold of the Count of Champignac's latest invention, metomol, a product that softens all metals. After several disasters caused by the marsupial with the vial of metomol, Spirou and Fantasio decide to take the Marsupilami back to his native jungle in Palombia. After a fight in a bar in Chiquito, the capital of Palombia, they cross paths with the limousine of the "Liberator of Palombia", the terrible General Zantas, who is none other than Zantafio, Fantasio's cousin. General Zantas is imposing his dictatorship and he wants to conquer the neighbouring country of Guaracha, whose natural resources he covets.//R/ In this composition, Spirou and Fantasio are caught up in time, Zantas will soon be invading Guaracha and they need the Count's metomol to wipe out the Palombian army before the border. With no news from the Count, they have to see Seccotine, who is on the spot, but first they have to get rid of Zantas's secret police.//R////R//Composed from the seventh episode of one of the legendary series of the 9th art, in which we find the protagonists. André Franquin's masterful graphics and style showcase some fine portraits of Spirou, Fantasio and Zantafio, as well as a superb Studebaker Commander (1st and 3rd panels) and the exotic scenery of Palombia. The artist drew inspiration for this story from the superb film 'The Dictator' by and starring Charlie Chaplin (1940). With this story, he expresses his anti-militarist side, which was so close to his heart and which would later be found in the gags of Gaston Lagaffe but above all in "Les Idées noires".//R////R//Signed and dated 53. (Traces of sticky paper on the sides, staple holes on the ends, small paper cuts on the corners and small fold in the top left corner). Size: 29 x 47.2 cm.
