Jijé: La Place royale, oil on canvas painted in 1947 in Brussels and reproduced in the catalogue raisonné "Joseph Gillain, peintures et sculptures" published by Éditions Musée Jijé in 2010 on pages 61 and 167. Gillain highlights this square on the Coudenberg hill, which was the seat of power for the Dukes of Brabant. The artist chose the angle in which we can make out the Hôtel Grimbergen on the left and the Hôtel Bellevue on the right, bisected by the Rue Royale which leads to the Place des Palais. Overall dimensions: 60 x 50.5 cm.
