Description
Osamu TEZUKA Astro Boy Robot Land India ink, coloured inks and gouache for two one-page strips of this story (in the original version, ロボットランド, Robotto rando) published from May to September 1962 in Shônen magazine. Annotated "p. 43" in the margin. Phylacteries in Japanese pasted in. The main villain, Saturn (a colossal figure dressed in a suit adorned with two stars, a cape, a small feathered hat and armed with a trident) featured on the cover of the June 1962 issue of this monthly magazine. Professor Ochanomizu and Astro Boy visit Doctor Haido, who is building an amusement park on a small island: he has decided to use robots to recreate fairy tales and legends from all over the world. But the place is hiding a secret factory. The story was adapted into a black-and-white cartoon for television in 1963. This work was acquired at Mandarake Auction in the mid-1990s and reproduced in a Japanese reference catalogue published in 1996. Extremely rare. 17.5 x 25.2 cm. Osamu TEZUKA
