Description
Large polychrome porcelain teapot, Xianfeng mark and period, China, 1851-1861 The body decorated with Zhong Kui raising a fan above his head with his right hand, surrounded by young women and men holding camellia, peony, magnolia and osmanthus flowers; and a dignitary under a wutong pointing to a young girl holding a lotus vase in her hands, followed by an elderly couple holding a plum blossom branch and a chrysanthemum flower, a child climbing on the old woman's back. A frieze of ruyi heads decorates the shoulder and stylised leaves the bottom of the body. The lid with landscape decoration is not original. Xianfeng six-character sigillary mark in iron red on the base. H. 17 cm (chips and restorations, notably to the spout)
