Large brown patina copper alloy incense burner, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) It depicts a rooster perched on a taiko on a four-legged base. The drumheads are decorated in high relief with hoho in the clouds. The cockerel serves as a grip on the lid of the incense burner. Two holes at the top of the drum suggest that there may have been an element there that has now disappeared. H. 95 cm
