Description
Ivory okimono, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Representing two of the shichi fukujin (seven gods of Happiness). Daikoku standing, dancing on a huge mallet, his own attribute in his hand. Hotei seated next to the mallet holding a cup containing koban (Japanese gold coins), a symbol of wealth. A child riding on the handle of the mallet holds Hotei's bag of wealth on his back. A mother-of-pearl button is inlaid on Daikoku's garment. A signature in red is engraved below 玉正 Gyokumasa H. 15.5 cm - L. 17 cm - PN. 733 g (cracks to the ivory) A CITES permit, valid for circulation within the EU only, will be given to the buyer.
