Description
A figure sitting on a bench chewing coca leaves, known as Coquero. He is wearing a scarf over his shoulder and his face is decorated with black body paint. Brown terracotta with red slip and cream and black painted decoration. Capuli culture, Carchi province, Ecuador 800 - 1500 AD H. 20 cm - W. 10 cm - D. 12 cm Condition: good. Minor retouch to the back of the bench. Provenance : - Former collection of Mr Claude Demarigny. Acquired in the 1960s. - Ader sale, Hôtel Drouot, 18 June 2013, lot 360.
