Description
Set of 3 bowls on pedestal. The first is decorated with a central red circle. Tongues in reserve on a shaded black background mark the perimeter of the bowl, which is outlined in red. The outside is painted in negative with white lines and triangles underlined in red. The second red bowl is outlined around the perimeter with a cream band left in reserve. It is animated by three red triangles. The outside is painted red. Brown terracotta with cream slip and negative-painted red or black decoration. The third bowl is decorated with a seven-pointed star and radiating lines. The outside is painted white. Brown terracotta with cream slip. Black decoration painted in negative and traces of red paint. Tuncahuan/Piartal culture, Carchi/Nariño province, Ecuador/Colombia 300 BC - 800 AD H. 7 cm - D. 14 cm - Condition: good. Worn polychromy. H. 6.5 cm - D. 15 cm - Condition: chip on edge. H. 10 cm - D. 20.5 cm - Condition: crack. Provenance: - Former collection of Mr Claude Demarigny.
