Lacquered wood inro, Japan, early 19th century
with three fundame lacquer squares decorated in togidashi on one side with a dragon in the clouds and on the other with a rooster, a hen and a chick with, at the top left, an inscription and a red seal 玄止斎法印 Genshisaï Hoin (Kano Yosen'in), this being the painter who inspired the subject. The inro is signed below in gold lacquer Inagawa saku 稻川作 with red lacquer seal in the shape of a jar.
